Dr Jim Halliday is the Head of the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Applied Science Division based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. He had previously been the Head of STFC’s Energy Research Unit, and has been active in energy research for over 45 years, and has extensive experience of initiating, managing and working on a wide range of collaborative and applied renewable energy research projects (funded by the UK Government, EU, InnovateUK, Carbon Trust, and the UK Research Councils). He has published over 70 papers.
Jim is a Chartered Engineer, a graduate in Environmental Science from the University of East Anglia (UEA), and has a doctorate in Applied Physics from the University of Strathclyde – his thesis title being ‘Wind Meteorology and the Integration of Electricity Generated by Wind Turbines’. He was an active member of the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) (now known as “RenewableUK”) for many years, and served on its Council for 14 years including two terms as Chairman.
Jim was one of founding Co-Directors of UKERC and oversees UKERC’s Energy Data Centre.
Peter Holt
Peter is the Lead for the Energy Data Centre (EDC), providing strategic, operational, and technical leadership for the service. He oversees the delivery and development of the EDC's activities, including the maintenance of the EDC discovery service, which provides access to information on energy-related datasets, projects, and publications. He also oversees the provision of data management support for UKERC researchers, helping to ensure that research data is managed, shared, and preserved in line with funder and community requirements.
Since joining the EDC/Energy Research Unit in 2020 as a Graduate Software Engineer, Peter has played a key role in the development and enhancement of the EDC's digital services and infrastructure. He progressed to the position of Technical Lead, where he was responsible for guiding the technical direction of the EDC's systems and services, before subsequently taking on responsibility for the wider leadership and management of the Energy Data Centre.
Oliver Brough
Oliver is a Graduate Energy Data Steward for the UKERC Energy Data Centre at STFC. He is responsible for ensuring FAIR practices, maintaining data quality, and supporting the growth of the Energy Data Centre’s content. He is also responsible for assisting UKERC researchers with their Data Management Plans over the course of UKERC 2024-2029. He joined the team after graduating from the University of Leicester with a degree in Physics, where his final year project involved using an estimation algorithm to combine satellite datasets of land surface temperature and emissivity at varying resolutions to examine heat distribution in urban areas.
Vivek Mistry
Vivek is a Graduate Software Engineer working on the Energy Data Centre (EDC), where he supports the development and maintenance of the EDC portal. He’s currently focused on helping to modernise the platform as part of a technical refresh. He studied Computer Science at the University of York, with a focus on Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. As part of his degree, Vivek completed multiple placements, gaining experience in both the automotive and consultancy sectors.
